I’ve made a new record called Picnic in a Landfill. If you’d like to hear it, click the button, enter your info, and I’ll send a streaming link and download code. For the time being, the record is free and only available via this newsletter. You are the people I want to share it with.
Picnic in a Landfill is my first solo album. My friends Curtis Fye (bass) and Will Wickham (piano) played on a few songs, and my pal Liza Kate sings on one. But it’s mostly just me this time around — a real DIY affair.
I nearly died a death of despair last summer, and I dropped off the face of the planet for awhile. I’d started this project but didn’t think I’d ever be able to finish it. Then, last October I started psychedelic treatments for my lifelong depression, and they’ve helped some. That let me get on with the work, and the process changed the direction of the music a lot. I pivoted to mixing the record to feel especially good on headphones during the treatments. The result (I think) is getting a little closer to the music I hear in my imagination.
I hope listening to Picnic in a Landfill brings you a little solace in these rough times. Making it has done that for me.
Loving it on first listen—the sparse and thoughtful instrumentation and your way of implanting quiet cinematic scenes in my brain is on in full force. Pretty sure the title track is my favorite so far! I also appreciate your intentional and very personal modes of sharing this music, as always.
Congratulations! I am very excited to listen.
